  • Assessment of the Canon Extensive Angle Lens - The EF-S 10-22mm F three.5-4.5 USM

I have just received my new Canon EF-S ten-22 ultra-extensive angle lens. This is one of Canon's most popular lens and is designed for the "crop sensor" collection of DSLR. Much more on what a http://www.pageblip.com/randy-jackson's-recent-critics-3186.html crop sensor is afterwards. My first considered soon after a couple of frames is "Wow, this is truly broad, it wraps all around my block."The issue of the day is why do I need to have a ten-22mm vast angle lens. I previously have a EF-S 18-fifty five zoom that came with Canon X1i digicam. So what am I heading to do with that added 8mm of width for a vast angle shot. That 8mm is like a soccer discipline when I am shooting a landscape in the distance (well possibly not fairly a soccer subject, but shut). There is a great need to have for people of us that shoot landscapes for a vast angle lens. As you might recognize in my landscapes I are likely to shoot really broad pictures with mountains or red rocks in the foreground and the horizon in the distance. I have been shooting most of my landscapes at 18mm with my kit lens on the T1i. That indicates that I am shooting at 28.8mm in movie 35mm measurement. This is simply because the T1i is a crop sensor digicam with a element one.6x.Now I have to explain the crop sensor things. Suffice to say that there are a few ratios of crop sensors in the Canon line of cameras total sensor, 1.3x, and one.6x. This refers to the ratio of the sensor (the pc chip that sees the picture and translates it to digital). The complete sensor is the exact same dimensions as the 35mm digital camera of decades previous. The two other ratios are, in impact, a subset of the total sensor and the 35mm movie dimensions. For practical functions this implies that the complete sensor would see the complete soccer area, the one.3x sensor would see inside the 20 yard lines and the 1.six element would seize within the thirty property lines. Now, you math majors out there do not hold me to the exact proportions, I am just trying to illustrate the principle. Here is a record exhibiting what Canon cameras have which sensor:Canon EOS 1Ds, Mark II and II (Complete Body) Canon EOS 5D and 5D, Mark II (Full Frame) Canon EOS 1D, Mark III,IV (one.3x Crop Frame) Canon Digital Rebel, T1i,XSi,XS (1.6x Crop Body) Canon EOS 20D,30D,40D,50D,7D (1.6x Crop Body)Now what does all this have to do with me seeking, needing, lusting after a ten-22mm extensive angle? Now you know that this lens will fit on my digicam (whew, that took a long time). You will also know that the 10mm, the widest of the vast angle, is genuinely a 16mm on my digital camera in comparison to how it looks on a full frame camera. That is nevertheless very excellent and will capture truly ranging views of people red rocks that I am so fond of.What about the other attributes of the lens? All the reviews I have examine display it to be a really high good quality "glass." Canon designates their best-of-the-line lenses with the letter "L" in the description. Though the EF-S 10-22 f/three.five-four.five does not carry the "L" designation, the use of three aspheric components and 1 SD component is a typical attribute of a quality lens. My first 1st shots with the lens left me with the impression of how distinct and sharp it is.This has high quality optical components and is not a "reduced-conclude, consumer form lens". Some pundits have advised that if it had not been an EF-S kind lens, it may have acquired the "L" designation, but because it will not fit on a professional stage DSLR (EOS 5D,1Ds series), Canon did not give it a "professional" L designation. In reality, no EF-S lenses have the "L" designation to day.EF-S lenses, of training course, are created for use only with APS-Do (one.6x) sensor Canon DSLRs and will presently only bodily mount on the Digital Rebel collection, and EOS 20D,30D,40D,50D 7D. The EF-S design enables the rear element to be closer to the sensor then with EF lenses, enhancing picture high quality, specially at the shortest focal lengths. The "S" in EF-S indicates "quick again focus" and now you know why. There are several technical good reasons that this lens is great for extensive pictures and landscapes. The critiques have revealed that it is extremely sharp and extremely rapidly when vehicle concentrating. On the damaging facet I will note that, if you use this lens when hunting at a particular person up near it will make them appear like they are standing in the circus exhibit with the distorted mirrors. It is obviously developed for these shots that are as extensive as all outside.
